LPA's unique, collaborative atmosphere creates an energized office space, which encourages employees to live balanced, sustainable lives both in the office and at home. There are no private offices. Employees work in an environment without traditional boundaries, which fosters the flow of ideas and supports communication between design teams.
Research is integral to innovation and essential to our process. At LPA, one of our design principles is “prove it” and we can live that value by investing in thoughtful exploration of our ideas, our projects and our environments. "LPAred"—which stands for research, education and design—is our research initiative that acts as a compass to help us navigate our clients through the increasingly complex world with rapidly changing technology and significant global and sustainable challenges.
We are curious creatives with a desire to increase the relevance of research in practice and in design. As we drive towards a stronger alignment between design decisions and user experiences, we discover opportunities to educate ourselves, our clients and our industry. We collaborate with university and corporate partners on primary research studies to better understand how our work impacts the end user.
LPA is a resource of knowledge and ideas for our clients and for the industry. Our team of thought leaders regularly shares literature reviews, whitepapers and webinars to advance the conversation of research-based design. It is also a resource for planning and design thinking initiatives to create more human-centered design solutions.
Using both pre-occupancy benchmarking and post-occupancy data collection, LPA develops best practices for influencing our integrated design process. We believe in turning research into application. With a focus on energy, wellness and user experience, our studies inspire the sustainable spaces and places we create.
The LPA Foundation was created in 2015 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the firm’s founding in 1965. LPA has a long history of community involvement and outreach. The Foundation will be the focus for making our charitable giving strategic and meaningful.
Created with a specific mission: to advance integrated design through research, education and sustainability, the mission supports our corporate mission to create sustainable places and spaces that enrich the lives of those who use them. As a leader in sustainability long before it was mainstream, we believe that the training and education of current and future leaders in the design and construction industry is key to creating a sustainable future.
The LPA foundation is committed to education, research and the promotion of sustainable practices that transform sustainable design from mitigation measures to becoming a restorative process that embraces the built environment’s responsibility as a catalyst for natural resource security and physical health.
Each year, we make charitable donations and provide in-kind services to local and national organizations that exemplify a commitment to and alignment with our core values. Some past recipients include the Environmental Nature Center Preschool, San Antonio Lifetime Recovery and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon. With our values serving as a solid groundwork, the LPA Foundation will strengthen our approach to creating a sustainable future by formalizing a commitment to educational, social, and environmental research and progress.
