Gauche Aquatic Park

Yuba City, California

The redevelopment of Gauche Park has become a cornerstone for Yuba City’s recreation program and a symbol of community importance and pride. The existing 10-acre park site is adjacent to the redevelopment and has now become the heart of a downtown recreational hub. Improvements include a 54,000-sq.-ft. community center, gymnasium, recreational offices and concession. An aquatics center with associated buildings, a 25-yard competition pool, 4,000-sq.-ft. recreational pool, training pool, and participatory fountain are also incorporated. These improvements are integrated with outdoor basketball, children’s play areas, plazas, courtyards, an amphitheater, a picnic area, parking and passive park space.

The park incorporates sustainable features such as bioswales, shade trees to reduce the heat-island effect, permeable pavement, drought tolerant plantings and the use of recycled materials. Other sustainable, energy saving, and life-cycle oriented project features include, durable, low-VOC materials, efficient LED and fluorescent lighting systems, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and high-efficiency mechanical building and pool systems with active controls.
