CSU San Bernardino College of Education

San Bernardino, California

The College of Education on California State University, San Bernardino campus was previous operating out of several buildings. Designed to blend with the modern tenets of the existing buildings the new COE, a 140,000-square-foot, three-story structure, brings all the College's programs and functions together in one facility. Located just off the Camphor Walk, a main pedestrian passage through campus, this state-of-the-art facility energizes the university and provides a new home to future educators.

Sustainable elements for this project included:
- The Demonstration Desert Garden reduces irrigation requirements by 80 percent.
- Building facades demonstrate solar strategies based on orientation.
- Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) panels were fabricated locally to reduce transportation pollution.
- Building envelope 20 percent better than Title 24.
- Green housekeeping policies and techniques (as a part of a campus wide program).
